People often ask me where they should go to set up their website. The companies I used when I started are still OK, but time has gone by and there are now some well-priced, user-friendly places to go for people looking for complete packages.

I recently set up an account with Bluehost. They provide a set of some of the more popular shopping carts, website scripts, and account support systems, ready for you to install right away. For beginners, it takes away the pain of having to search for all this stuff yourself. The layout of their site is also really clean and easy to follow. Definitely worth a look.

Introducing a new-look ParentPack site!

The ParentPack is the brainchild of my friend Jennifer and myself. It's not entirely original, as we got inspiration from The Mom Pack, a group of women in the US. The basic idea is, there are many small businesses in Taiwan run by expats or locals, trying to create income for their families. The ParentPack is a platform for these businesses to get together and promote each others' and their own businesses, through giving potential customers "good value" (free information, small gifts and samples...), without outlaying a lot of money on large advertising campaigns. The ParentPack has been running for a couple of years now, and is well-received by consumers and small businesses.

If you are a small, family-oriented business, you are welcome to join us! Take a look at the blog entries here, and decide if you would like to join. Prepare something of value to potential customers. Commit to passing out the Parent Pack to your own client base and to other places you have relationships with. Contact me to get into the Pack, and to receive Packs to send out yourself. Please note, this is RECIPRICAL; you must commit to sharing other companies' information before taking part!
